Engine Number Location(S)

I recently purchased a 70T that came with a spare engine. I was told this engine was the original engine to the car and it was replaced with the one that is now in the car. It looks like the POPO tried to rebuild the original engine and gave-up after tearing it apart.

Last night I attempted to verify this story and to identify the now installed engine. The number of the engine in the car was easy to find and is actually a 70T engine. The spare engine does not have a number because the part of the block casting where the number should be is cracked-off. This immediately had me thinking that someone was trying to conceal the identity of this engine.

I can say that this car and the engines have not seen the light of day since 1987.

My question is this: Are the engine numbers stamped in any other location on the engine?

Thank you.

Someone must know.

The engine serial number is only on the fan post/web. I've never noticed the serial number stamped anywhere else on the cases I've taken apart.

I don't think there is another engine # anywhere on the case, you could check the engine type # but that's about it.

I was planing on selling this spare engine. Will the fact that the numbers are missing decrease its value? Thank you.

Value....not really unless the cracked piece is part of something critical.....

Now, knowing where the engine type and engine serial numbers ARE....the term "Cracked off"....seems odd.

Can you post a pic?

Below are two pictures of the cracked-off web.

The internal engine number hides on the horizontal surface BEHIND the serial number....it's very faint.
