HELP! Need help with a retrofit KM Speedo in a German ROW 78SC

I have a german ROW 78SC. The previous owner replaced the KM speedo with a US spec MPH dated 81. Both speedo and odo readings work perfectly.

See pic below:

And the back of the MPH unit:

I wanted to go back to the OEM KM speedo. So I got a known good used one. I wired it the same as the MPH unit. And the speedometer reading works great - but here's my problem: the trip-meter and odometer do not increment while I am driving. So something's wrong.

I duplicated the wiring that my MPH had as shown below:

My MPH had two wires going to the same post as shown below:

Another view shown here:

and:

My questions are:
1. What is the correct wiring for the KM speedo so that my trip and ODO work properly?

2. There is one post left on the KM speedo that does not have a wire attached to it -- that can't be correct can it?

ANY help at all would be most appreciated guys.

Tom

I should add that it seems like the two wires that are "put" together actually should not be. But I need some confirmation...

Can anyone comment on if that one post should be left without a wire connected as in the picture?

Tom,

If you wired it up exactly like the 180 speedo you took off it should work just fine. I suspect the odo and the trip meter are both broken. I took a 180mph out of my car about 5 years ago and replaced it with the correct 250 km/h speedo. I wired it up exactly like the 180 and everything works just fine.

*I assume the blue wire connectors are complements of the D.O.T.*

Carl, thanks for the pics -- I guess the un-used post is for a speed-warning or buzzer system perhaps that was not implemented.

I really appreciate the pics . . .I really like the euro driverside tail red light you have on your pelican gallery.... are those still available/sold?

I do think my odo/trip gears must be broken -- calling PaloAlto...

No problem.

Rear fog light is aval. here:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_ELlite_pg4.htm

The wiring for it is already in your driver's side rear fender; in front of the taillight housing. You'll need to find the 2 position switch to make the light work.

If you do get one remember not to go driving around with it on all the time. It's only for serious rain and/or heavy fog. It's come in handy here in Houston when the highway speed slows down during heavy downpours.
