heat exchanger switch
A friend of mine asked me to post this question for him. He lurks here but has not posted yet. The question is that he is converting his exhaust from a 3.0 to a 3.2. Now the flanges on the 3.2 are thicker making longer studs necessary. The problem is that 9 of those boys are stuck solid. They are in no heat with a torche zones and he does not want any broken. ...Any suggestions here?
Thanks ..from Bill Oh ..and GO STEELERS!

I had a similar situation, I needed to get my 84 911 with a 3.6 through state emissions. I removed the bursch headers with the Dansk muffler and replaced it with a used 85 exhaust with cat. The stock 3.2 exhaust flanges were quite a bit thicker than the headers. Since I will be reinstalling the the header again, I did not want to remove or take the chance of breaking the studs. What I did was cut down the stock flanges to about half the thickness with a power saw and a good metal blade. There is plenty of material to do this and still get a good seal. I am sure that you could get these machined as well. I did not have the luxury of time to go this route.
