Car Shipping Question
First Off....I did the search thing, so turn off the flamethrowers.
I am looking for "personal experience" with auto shippers. I need to have a car shipped form Texas to Maine, and would appreciate some input. Price is important, but not the deciding factor. I do NOT want the car sent to a terminal somewhere to sit for weeks. Andy input would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew,
I recommend Fedex/Passport. I have used them several times with great success. I also used Horseless Carriage and got car damage and once my check cleared, they essentially told me to go screw myself. Closed carriers are more expensive than open. It's worth it to me. The time needed will vary, as they all put together loads of cars based on a route. They like to fill the truck at one end of the country and empty it at the other. The straightest path between point A and point B also matters. The pickup and delivery dates may vary a little from what they originally tell you based upon their success at coordinating the 6 or so cars each truck will carry. They usually tell you the dates will be the "week of..." to start with. The driver will then call you 24 hrs ahead of pickup/delivery. It helps to be a little negotiable on the dates. This month, they will be super busy hauling cars to and fro, for the annual Monterrey, CA events that are happening as we speak. The number of transporters that will be tied up there has to be seen to be believed. The last time I was there, a couple years ago, there were at least 50, just at the Pebble Beach event by itself. That's one of maybe 15 or 20 events that happen over a two week period. Good luck, JR |

I used DAS before. They took two weeks, but they arrived right on schedule and were well priced. They have an instant online quote on their website.

Ditto that LA to Austin pretty good price too, it was just a bit over a grand. keep in mind it really comes down to the owner/operator of the rig and the green truck guys are all pretty much into nice cars. treat them like their own. IMO
