Mike:
If the 680 is fully charged and I attache a battery tender to it to keep it top off while the car is not used; would the clock be enough of a drain where the battery tender couldn't keep it topped off? |
JP: The clock drain is what I am refering to as "normal". My car has an "abnormal" drain on the system right now. Therefore, I need to keep the PC680 charged with a "special" charger or disconect my battery when letting my car sit for several days without use.
Again, if everything is "normal" with your car's electrical system, you should NOT need a charger for your PC680. However, if your PC680 does get drained, a standard battery charger CANNOT recharge the PC680. Mike |
jpahemi,
because it is 1200 cracking amp. Still same brand, and using the same pole type/size. MOMO3.2. I don't get it Mike. If you "deleting a number of electrical systems on your car", then it shoul dbe better regarding "charging" instead of draining since your car's components are using less bttery's energy. Why your battery get drain? "A typical battery charger CANNOT fully charge an Odyssey dry cell battery. Therefore, the car's alternator would work extra hard trying to recharge the battery. This would take a big toll on the alternator and eventually lead to premature failure." --------- This statement of yours scared me since I have no idea if there is diff. between the dry cell and the normal battery. I recently installed a voltage meter on my car and most of the time, I found that the voltage is right at the mark between 14.9v and 15v when driving. After the engine shut off, it's drop to 13v. Next day, it's between 11.7 to 12v. I think 15v this is a little too much. Is it because the alternator is trying to charge the battery too much since there is a little drain? Or is it because I am using the battery which has too much cracking amp for my car (1200)? "anyone else using an Odyssey Dry Cell battery that may have a slight drain on their electrical system, it is VERY wise to purchase a proper charger that meets the criteria outlined on Odyssey's web site--or, fry your alternator." --------- So that mean even the car is running, and the alternator is trying to charge the dry cell too much, there might be a chance of frying the alternator? Then why Odyssey? To me, that headache. I thought Odyssey is the outstanding battery meaning no headache. Well, I will read Odyssey web site. Thanks. |
Oh brother. It is, at times, difficult to communicate properly on the Internet! And to think one of my degrees is in English, Cum Laude no less...
Simply: THERE IS NO PROBLEM USING AN ODYSSEY PC680 ON YOUR PROPERLY FUNCTIONING 911. MY CAR HAS A DRAIN BECAUSE SOMETHING IS DRAWING AGAINST THE SYSTEM. IT IS THE RESULT OF ME MESSING WITH THE ELECTRICALS. READ THE ODYSSEY WEB SITE ABOUT PROPERLY "RECHARGING" THEIR BATTERY. YOU WILL THEN UNDERSTAND THAT A TRADITIONAL BATTERY CHARGER SHOULD NO BE USED. I hope I did not just cause more confusion. Sorry guys. Mike |
I replaced the Optima Red Top with an Odyssey 6+ months ago and have not experienced any issues. I often leave the roach undriven for up to 3 weeks at a time and it held its charge just fine.
Install was easy, i just strapped the Odyssey to the AJ USA Optima mounting plate using $2 metal pipe fasteners from Home Depot. Could post some pics if anyone wants to see how i did it. |
Alf,
I would appreciate the pics! Thanks! |
Here's the mount I made for my Odessey 925.
http://www.plumley.org/porsche/photo...mp_final_2.jpg I got the little bigger 925 because the 993 has more electronics and a dead battery is a bigger problem. To reiterate the above, in normal use, the Odessey works perfect. I use a small trickle charger (SureCharge IV) to keep her topped up as weeks may go by between track events. One time the battery was fully discharged. My new Sears recharger/starter would not recharge the Odessey. The electronics kept switching the charger off saying the battery had a fault. So I jumpered in a regular car battery and the 925 in parallel. This did the trick and it recharged just fine. |
momo3.2,
it's probably not your english but it's mine. I would stop here to avoid anymore confusion. Thanks. |
Here ya go. It is not the prettiest install, but on there nice and tight and i did not have to get new parts.

Alf,
Thanks forthe picture! |
What are the specs on the terminal adapters? Thread pitch/dia and more importantly, the size of the battery post end?
