Have you had the mixture checked?
Also, don't bother with a dealership. They're useless when it comes to the older air-cooled cars. Find a good independent shop in your area.

I just went through this with my '84 and I can tell you that it worked fantastic for me. I had a bit of hesitation from 2k to 3k rpms and I did the adjustment outlined at the following site and it is an amazing transformation. Others have decribed better tip-in (also experienced) and more responsive pedal (here also). It only takes 15-20 minutes to pull the AFM, a half hour to carefully remove the black box lid, and ten minutes to do the adjust and replace everything. Piece of cake - and the best part? It is 100% free! Good luck,

It sounds like the problem is fuel delivery or a bad temp sensor maybe. The easiest thing to do is go to your Porsche dealer, buy a can of BG and dump it into a full tank of premium. It'll clean out the injectors and fuel lines. I'd change the fuel filter before doing this. Then go through all of the tests and checks outlined in the Bentley manual.
