Exclamation watersheilds on a zenith car

hey all... got some watershields for my 70 T 2.2 with zenith carbs..... i know.. read all about the k&n debate... but i'll take my chances (the watershields look very cool and all!)

anyway, got the product from the host, great service. the site claimed it workd on zeniths and i even confirmed with an email from customer service... got them and got 0, goose, nada, nill, none... directions or intallation instructions!?! (just a 1 pager about MFI cars) I emailed PP customer service and got this...

Quote: Sorry, but I haven't installed a set of these on a 2.2, and those instructions are all that the manufacturer provides. You may need some other parts, such as shorter airhorns, to get the fit you need...

now i would not expect instuctions on all parts, but i sure did on a set of after market air cleaner assys. then i got a message from another PP guy saying he doesn't think they'll work at all.

NOW AS I READ THIS I NOTICE IT SOUNDS ANTI PP. I AM NOT.

this site is the reason i got back into pcars.. i am just a bit frustrated and wanted to give the proper background.

anyway.. anyone have personal experence with zeniths and the watershields that PP sells? got a set of inst. laying around?? or hell, i'll start with an explaination of what the hell shorter air horns are!!

thanks and again, really do love PP and this board.. just a little underqualified to figure this out on my own and a bit frustrated.

tr

I have Zeniths with watershields and have no problems. I din't get the Watershields from PP but they should work. Have you tried to put them on? They are straightforward. Good Luck.

I got my WS from PP 2 years ago. Its pretty straight forward and you have everything you should need in the kit. Had it done in less then 30min on my 2.2 with Zeniths. You might need some hose for the air return. (?)
A picture of them installed is in my sig. Just click to see.

thanks guys

the getting the filters on is not the problem... just got a bit intimidated by the hoses and several unfamilar connectors / adapters included. here are a few hoses that hooked up to the stock assys. just not sure where they go now...... i'll just get it all out and use the pics i have found on the board.. and figure it out.

.. just thought someone may have the thing detailed out.

thanks anyway.

I use a thick axle grease on each side of the filter to seal it and I make sure the filter never needs oil. K&N cleans great for me.

The watershields will fit no problem, there is a gasket that goes under them and you can and should use your stock air horns that where inside your old filter housings.

I've been using K&N filters for years on all sorts of engines and never had a problem with them.

Great question about the WS kit. I am thinking of getting them for my T with Zeniths, but was curious about performance. Anybody want to comment on the performance of said kit? Also, my car is original, so will it affect value +/-?

tdiddy, it would be great if you post detailed "how-to" when you are finished. That way, those following in your footsteps will be shown the correct path. :-)

Well the watershields certainly won't hurt your performance, my 3.0 with Zeniths (36mm venturis) put down 174 HP and 180 ft/lbs at the rear wheels recently and that was with questionable fuel delivery resulting in a lean condition just as the motor got up into the powerband. That equates to about 205 flywheel HP so I think you're 2.2 will be fine.

I got my watershields from PP for my 2.2 w/Zenith. Easy, straight forward, install. No noticeable performance gains except for the increase in awesome carb sound.

I've had the K&N on my 2.2 for years. just liked the look. don't think you can really consider it a performance improvement though. I skipped the hoses, etc. Not very functional in my mind.
