speaker replacement on a 76 930

I want to replace the speakers on my 1976 turbo carrera. I have looked through the manual, but I couldn't find information on how to remove my old speakers. I know the locations (doors and rear deck) and the sizes (5 1/4 and 4x6), but I don't want to blindly rip at my interior in a vain attempt to get to them. For example: how do I remove the grills to the speakers in the doors? Are they glued on? Any advice from someone who has done this would be greatly appreciated.

The rear 4 x 6 speakers are easy to remove. The grill snaps on the speaker body. You have to get under the plastic portion and pry evenly until it comes off. Don't pry were the metal screen is. Once off, there are 4 screws to remove and the speaker is out. Be sure to keep the grills. Most 4 x 6 speakers don't come with grills since this is a retrofit size. There are some less expensive speakers in Crutchfield that do have grills. The front 5 1/4 don't require removal of the complete door panel unless you want to change the wiring. The grill again must be pried off until the whole grill is off. Once again just stay under the plastic outer edge. You may have to remove the door pocket to get at the screws (4). Remove all the screws at the edge of the door pocket and the one inside by the latch. Release the door handle from the inner door mechanism at the plastic connector to free up the pocket. A good 5 1/4 2 way speaker can go here. These speakers are much more important than the rear so most of the budget should go here. You can use the original housing to mount a new speaker. If possible, order one that is metric sized for european cars. It's really not that hard, good luck. Michael
