Cool After 5 years, finally have full throttle.......

I finally got around to putting bushings in the throttle console (mounted on the engine) and adjusting the linkage. I now get full throttle !!! and no slop in the accelerator. Wow, what a difference! I also found some rotten vacuum hoses while plundering around the back of the engine. The hands/fingernails are dirty but it was worth the effort.

Cool Replacing throttle bushings.....

On my SC, all I had to do was remove the heater blower motor and mounting bracket to make enough room to get to the "throttle console". Remove the light return spring that goes from the throttle arm to the bottom of one of the intake runners (no tools req'd) and pop off the throttle rod ends. Remove the 3 13mm nuts holding it to the block and lift out. Remove the 13mm nut on the end of the throttle shaft and wiggle the right arm off the shaft. Press out the old bushings (mine were completely gone!), clean everything up, press in the new bushings and reassemble the cross shaft. As some manuals say, "Reassemble in reverse order". I ran into a problem getting the lower throttle rod off the pivot ball. I finally loosened the lock nut and unscrewed the rod that runs under the car. After I got the unit on the workbench, I was able to remove the rod end off the pivot ball.

Yes, thank you. One more question though, how did you adjust the linkage to ensure you got full throttle?

Cool Linkage adjustment.......

To adjust the linkage for full throttle operation, I adjusted the ends of the rod that connects the throttle console to the lever on the air intake so that each end was about half way up/down the threads. This rod is made so that the final adjustment can be made with the rod attached on both ends (one end has reverse threads). However, what I did was connect the throttle console end and push the rod to what should be the wide open throttle position. While holding it in that position, I turned the throttle plate lever (on the CIS body) also to wide open. Made note of which way the adjustment needed to go and (in my case) shortened the adj. rod a few turns. Repeated the process until the rod end matched up with the throttle lever ball. Not very "scientific" but it worked! As a final check, have an assistant press the gas pedal to wide open and check to make certain the CIS lever is at the w.o.t. position.

There shoud be at least 1mm between the throttle arm and throttle stop at WOT.
That is what the manual says, if someone could explain why I would be glad.
