915 to G-50 swap info
Hi, i am seriously considering swapping my tranny in my 86 Carrera for a G-50. I rebuilt my transmission due to worn synchros and bearings but i still don't feel comfortable with the shifting feel. I know that I would have to change my pedal assembly for the hydraulic clutch, but what else? Will my C.V. joints bolt up? Do I also have to change the shifter and linkage? How about the mounnting points? I know the bellhousing has to be shortened but is this something any machine shop can do, or is it mmore involved? I would really love to have the shifter feeling like my 325is!! I am pretty sure I would have to get an 87 or newer clutch kit but do I also have to get a matchinng flywheel?
Thanks to anyone in advance who can answer this very long list of questions. Mike |

Before you give up on that 915 read the following threads:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/001026.html http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/001015.html I suggest one gear oil change with Castrol Hypoy, then a switch to SWEPCO 201 gear oil ... if you haven't already tried it! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
