Gear shifter went all loose yesterday...

started the car, all of a sudden, there is no friction in switching gears really. Stopped by a shop, just said the shifter bushing probably gave out, and was probably never replaced, and it's not a big deal, $5 part really.

How hard is the fix, and what part am I looking for exactly? Clutch bushing? Shop said he could fix it for under $100, but I'm guessing it's not too hard to fix as long as I have the right part.

Spend the money and get Wayne's 101 Projects for your 911. Shows you how to do this project and lots of others. Well worth the money.

Hardest part is removing the shift knob since they are installed with a crush washer. Part is more than $5.00. When was the last time you brought a PORSCHE part for $5.00?

My shifter went loose. It's the rubber bushing that came off after 20 years. I reinserti it. It came out again. I need to glue it. It's not too hard. You just have to remove the center piece and pull out the carpet in the shifter area. $100 labor rate or 1 hour is about right. 1/2 hour to get to it. Half hour to put it back.

Couple of websites, part is actually cheaper than that. I have a whole plethora of cosmetic parts that were under $5.
