911 H4 xenon install gone bad!!!

INSTALLING MY AFTERMARKET H4 XENON LITRONIC KIT TODAY AND WAS CUTTING OUT THE HOLES SO AS TO FIT THE HARNESS THROUGH THE HEADLIGHT SOCKETS(NOT PAYING ANY ATTENTION TO CLEARANCE BEHIND. LETS JUST SAY THE DRIVER SIDE WENT FINE BUT WHEN IT CAME TO THE PASSENGERS SIDE. WELL I THINK THE PICTURES WILL EXPLAIN.

WITH THIS HAVING BEEN SAID"OR SHOULD I SAY HAVING BEEN SHOWN" IF ANY ONE HAS A COOLER LYING AROUND IN GOOD SHAPE FOR A DECENT PRICE LET ME KNOW. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SIX STRAIGHT DAYS OF SUN HERE IN OHIO, BUT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE RAIN. IF YOU GET MY DRIFT. NO P-CAR = DEPRESSED ME. ON A HAPPY NOTE THE H4 XENONS WORK GREAT AND ARE NOT EVEN SLIGHTLY OBNOXIOUS LIKE MANY OF THE AFTERMARKET KITS I SEE ON THE ROAD. I WENT WITH THE 1200 K=RATING FOR A PURPLE HUE LIKE MY AUDI ALLROAD.

did you switch out to the full Euro kit or the American bulb/lens (?) replacement? I would like to do that because i am getting old and my headlights seem dim...lol

axvel 08-05-2006 10:59 AM

Where did you get the kit>?

donporfi 08-05-2006 11:52 AM

Sorry to see what happened to your oil cooler. Hope somebody has one for you.

With that kit do you have low and high beams ?
Where did you buy it? approx how much?
How do you install it?

It is entirely possible that the cooler can be repaired ... at a local aviation repair shop. It may be possible to TIG weld up the damaged tubes. The shop should be able to pressure-test it, and without FAA certification papers ... it should be a quite reasonable repair.

THE H4 XENON KIT CAME OUT OF **********.COM. IT LISTS FOR $479.00 IN THEIR CATALOG AND SHOWS A RIDICOULOUS MSRP OF 1000.00 DOLLARS. I FOUND IT ON EBAY AND IT WAS 249.99 FOR ANY COLOR RATING. WHITE BEING A KELVIN RATING OF 6000 BLUE BEING 8000 AND 12000 BEING PURPLE. NOTE THE HIGHER THE KELVIN RATING ONLY INFLUENCES THE COLOR NOT THE BRIGHTNESS. SO I CALLED AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD MATCH THE PRICE. IT WAS 100% PLUG AND PLAY. NOT A SINGLE WIRE TO CRIMP. VERY WEL MADE. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS DRILL HOLES TO MOUNT THE BALLASTS AND MAKE A LARGER HOLE TO FIT THE HARNESS THROUGH THE BACK OF THE HEADLIGHT SOCKET. IT TOOK ME AROUND 45 MINUTES FOR THE COMPLETE INSTALL. NOW I WISH I TOOK MORE TIME AND AVOIDED MY MISTAKE WITH THE OIL COOLER. BUT THE ONLY THING I HAVE NOT DONE YET IS ROAD TEST THE LIGHTS. I AM GOING TO THROW AN OLD TROMBONE COOLER ON SO I CAN GO AROUND THE BLOCK THIS EVE. WOULD THE TROMBONE BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR SHORT DRIVES IN 80 DEGREE WEATHER AND A 3.2 ENGINE?

BUMP BUMP BUMP
FOR A USED FRONT OIL COOLER? DOES ANYONE KNOW GOOD AFTERMARKET ONES THAT WILL HOOK UP TO THE FLEXIBLE HOSES? THANKS ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell my PORSCHE still have the old trombone loop and it's been 90 and higher here. Run it with the A/C on and the top off.

Of course you can drive it with the trombone cooler.

I will buy your damaged cooler if you are going to switch. I need it for a template

WELL I JUST GOT BACK FROM A 50 MILE TRIP WITH THE TROBONE COOLER INSTALLED. IT ALMOST SEEMED TO RUN COOLER??? WEIRD. THE XENON LIGHTS WORKED PERFECTLY AFTER I GOT THEM ADJUSTED CORRECTLY AS TO NOT BLIND OTHER DRIVERS. AS FAR AS THE OLD ONE I THINK I FOUND SOMEONE TO REPAIR IT, BUT I WILL STILL ENTERTAIN BUYING A GOOD USED ONE.
THANKS

Does the xenon bulb have little actuating flaps that change hi and low beams? Any "hot spots" with the non-H4 bulbs?

Can you take (and post) a front-on photo of the car with the lights turned on? I'd like to see how it would look to others on the street.

Thanks. SmileWavy

dd74,

Looks just like every other blue-eyed, modern glare beacon out there you encounter at night!!! That the DOT ever approved the HID lamps is sheer lunacy!

Yes, Warren, I realize that. I just wanted to see what the car looked like from the front. It'd take a lot of convincing to part with my H4s.

WPOZZZ 08-06-2006 12:03 AM

I'd like to see a pic from inside the car. That way we can see the throw and brightness of the lights.
