Removing DOT reinforcement in doors
I have installed a welded cage that includes 2 bars across the door openings (the top one is removable) in my SC. I want to lighten up the doors further by cutting out the inner panel and leaving the door enclosure open or installing an aluminum panel. I would also like to remove the reinforcement in the inside of the door skin. My questions are:
1. How much does the reinforcement bar weigh and is it worth removing? 2. What is the best method to remove the reinforcement from the door? 3. I have a pair of Euro doors that would have to be refinished and hung on this tub. Depending on answers above, would it make more sense to use the Euro doors? The reinforcement bar looks to be inserted at each end of the door with no spot welds on the door skin. I am not sure how the bar is attached at each end of the door. I am hoping that I can carefully cut the bar in half and pull it out at each end. BTW, the door has been finished and painted on the outside, so I want to avoid the need to refinish if at all possible. Thanks in advance for any advice. This picture is the best I have at the moment, but the bar can be seen through the opening in the door. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1154871767.jpg |
Go with CF doors and save the hassle, they fit pretty good, the weight is 6#!, cheers, Ant.

I agree w/ that -- but if you pull out the safety bar - weigh it and post the results -- Inquiring Minds Want to Know!
