Our email address`s being harvested from this forum ?

Not sure how correct it is but I was told by another pelican member that spam senders go to forums like this one and use a program to harvest any posted email address`s . For instance kurt@fakemail.com would be picked up.
I do notice many junk mails showing content related to cars and similar interests of mine. Ive stopped posting my email address just in case this is true.
Anyone have any input. Is this correct ?

Kurt Williams

It's right there in your sig...

There are "webcrawlers" that look for e-mail addresses to spam. Totally automated. If you do not want your e-mail address collected, do not post it anywhere (including your signature). Your website indicates you're a full-service tech consultant (including web design) and you don't know about webcrawlers and webbots?

I've seen guys post their address with "at" instead of @ around here to avoid this.

I know for a fact that spammers have got e-mail addys from rennlist.
It might have been a coincidence but a few days after i posted on a stock investment thread on the Pelican OT board I started getting spams about every junk stock there is.
I usually spell out "at" instead of using the @ symbol on my e-mail addy, that helps sometimes.

Spammers?

I would worry more about our government checking our phone calls and emails then some spammer getting our email address.

I'm still geting 'em...usually penny stocks being touted...also vi//agra ads, penis enlargin ads, fake rolexes, you name it. I just double delete, considering it the price paid for being online.

If you have your email address in your sig, then spambots will most likely harvest them from the sig. You should never post an email address in public if you don't want spam.
