Upgrading my Sway Bars
Hi All
I am completing my widebody conversion, and wanted ideas on what I should be looking for pertaining to Sway bars. My stocker had 21/20mm on it. But want a tighter feel to the car. I installed a set of Big Reds & vented rotors, boy are they heavy compared to stockers, then much wider wheels to fill the slantnose front fenders, and 930 rears. Seems that I added a fair amount of unsprung weight, and thought that to keep the ride (controlled) the possibility of going to thicker bars will be nesessary. Yes/No? Thanks in adance Mark |
I'm running Smart Racing anitroll bars front and rear, and love the performance. Very tunable, and can be upgraded without changing everything. You simply get a bigger or smaller diameter bar, and retain the end links, etc. High quality product. Upgrading the rear sway bar mounts with wevo units is recommended, as the stock ones will probably tear right off the chassis with the use of fat tires and any hardcore or track driving.
Do you still have the stock torsion bars and shocks? I bought a complete package from SRP, including shocks, t-bars, antiroll bars, and have to say that the pieces work very well together. Highly recommend. Ask them about your unsprung weight issues. And yes, the sway bar mounts did break on my car. Regards, Garen (87 930) |

I went for the TRG sway bars. Required some modification as they are "through tub" as opposed to later years where the bars went under the body. However that shouldn't be an issue for your '76 car. Watch out for your ground clearance though. Raised manhole covers look intimidating now! |

Thanks for the words. I'll check out Smart Racing Products. Yeah I thought the stock stuff would rip right out. Yep, stock torsion bars, but Bilsteen Sport shocks front and rear. I need a serious upgrade for sure. Mark |

Hmm. I went Bilstein Sports all around and oversize torsion bars as well. Plus the TRGs as mentioned. The only issue was the use of Delcron bearings. Great performance but too noisey for street use which, if I'd been thinking, is where my car spends most of it's time. Ah well. |
