M&K install
I'm hanging my 1 in 2 out M&K in the morning (84 Carrera) and have the new straps, what do they secure too? I see where the old ones are but new ones are obviously not long enough too cover the came distance.
I suppose it would help just by removing the old or do a search but I'm nto instant gratification. Thanks |

Did mine yesterday with SSI's. Mine was the opposite and the hangers were so far back they wouldn't let the muffler get close enough. I had to take a large pair of pliers and bend the hangars to get a nice fit.

I did my M&K last week. The straps hang from the same bracket as the stock muffler on my SC.

does one of the straps still go around the heat exchanger plumbing (right strap as you look at the back of the car) or does it just hang from the bracket?

I just installed my M&K 1-1 last night and the short strap fit fine on the stock bracket (driver side), but the longer strap couldn't be tightened down enough to hold on the passenger side.
Should I have run it over the heat exchanger tube as well? Doesn't seem long enough in my memory but that aint exactly a measured response.

That looks like the situation and I can live with one strap for a short time and will get something to fit on the passenger side.

Got everything back together, not that it was apart that much in the first place. Mufflers on and sounds great (shakes the house a little) but smooth at idle and no resonance at higher rpm. Used one new strap and one old strap. I'll take some pics and do a sound clip in a few days but unfortunately don't have digital here so it will have to wait.
Had to bend the right pipe (passenger side) down a little to get it symmetrical but all is OK by my standards GREAT SOUND. light, what else could you ask for ![]() I'm going for a ride! |

I'm getting my M&K 1in 1out today... How long did the whole removal / install take you. Are there any pitfalls which may cause this to take more than an 45 min - an hour ???

The new strap came from Pelican and the old one (shorter of the two old) was used but I got a longer hex bolt to make it fit a slightly longer circiumference. It is on the right side and does go around the heat exchanger plumbing. I used a longer bolt to pull the ends together and then safety wired the ends in place, removed the bolt and put in the new hex bolt and removed the safety wire.
Everything was straightforward w/no rusted exhaust bolts. I did put the back end of the car up on jackstands for more work space but no complications, most of the time went into getting the straps adjusted. Sorry I can't provide any pics or sound clip. The sound is not for the faint of heart but mostly just gets your attention when I start it in the garage. I'm sure my wife will be pleased with the change but she will get accustomed to it, she's lived with me for 36 years. Too expensive to get a divorce now.
