Speedometer not working
The speedometer in my 76 coupe stopped working shortly after I installed a 3.2 in it last year. I thought since it worked at least for a little time, it was just the speedo, so I swapped the one from my 82. Still not working, the odometer does not work either. Any ideas?

I'm no electric guru, but I bet you're not getting a pulse to the speedo, which is electronic which also would affect the odo.
Can you put a scope or a meter on the signal wire and verify that you are getting pulses? (sorry about the electric guru thing...I couldn't resist :D ;) ) |
something to check
in the middle of the two rear seat on the floor pan (under the carpet) there is a metal cover. remove this cover and see if the speedowire (brown) has been cut by rubbing againt the shift mechanism. I had this happen to me |
Its OK, I'm an idiot on DC voltage...Would the signal come from the sensor from the transmission? I have voltage on the rest of the functional parts (the lights).
|
Start at the sensor or the speedo...and work to the other end. Since it occured after the swap, I would thing you did something to the wires...since it's the same tranny right?
|
Different trany, should the sensor push in or be line up in the hole a particular way. BTW, the wires at the shifter mechanism are good. I just checked them.

Most probably you have aproblem with the sensor. You changed speedos and nothing happened.
According to the Bentley manual there is only one way that you can install the sensor. I think that the signal that you should get from this sensor is a square wave, 60 pulses per revolution. |
Does anyone have a pic or reference on how the sensor is installed?
