Suggestions on shipping a non-running car from Texas to Los Angeles?
Anyone have any suggestions on the most economical way to get a non-running car from Sugarland, TX to Los Angeles, CA? The most recent quote I got was $2K, which makes the deal prohibitively expensive...
Thanks, Wayne

find trucking company or private trucker who "deadheads" back from primary destination. ie. he has to go to texas with load, but doenst have a return load to bring back. very common. plan z........grab flight-rental p/u-drive to p-car-buy/borrow come alongs to get on trailer and drive back.

I just received a 911 engine on a pallet that was shipped from AZ to MI using Yellow Freight. Perhaps they can ship a car in a closed transport? They were reasonable ($320) for an engine on a pallet.

I had a non running car shipped from east coast to Montana for $1200 a few months back, maybe not quite as far, it took them 2 months to pick it up. Are you looking for enclosed or open trailer? If enclosed I think you wont do much better. Just keep shopping. I dont recall who shipped mine, those details are at home, but if you want them PM me. In Canada the cheapest was by train for something else I did. Price out that option also.

Wayne,
Sugerland is right outside of Houston off I-10. I would contact a small transport service in Houston and see if they would take it. The bigger companies are going to have a problem if the car has to be positioned on a different trailer at a hub, so if it is not running that is a problem right off. A smaller independant on the way to LA should have no trouble with this, but I would check from the Houston end. Good luck -

I shipped my R1100S from Cali to Houston for $500. It was in a small car trailer, so I would imagine he could carry a car for not much more, especially if it's not a real valueable car.
It was Barclay Transportation at 210-410-7376

You might try All American Auto Transport if you have not had any luck so far (on the web). They shipped a 996 for me to Houston from Detroit in June and it went smoothly and the cost was $700. I do not see how they make money, but you know they have to. Good luck....Garry

PM me as I'm aware of a car coming from LA to Texas in the near future, and as of now, the trailer is empty on the way back...
