URGENT HELP! Airbox/engine ID question
I have just had a nasty shock. The restoration on my 79 SC targa is nearly complete. Last week while prepping the engine to drop back in my mechanic told me i had a crack in my airbox.
No problem. i odered a new one Part number 911.110.906.00 for a 78-83 european 911. Today when we went to install it we found that the air intake runner connector & sleeves dont fit. The new airbox had a part number sticker of 911.110.106.02. so maybe i was sent the wrong part, (but i doubt it). My old air box has smaller 39mm outlets whilst the new one has 45MM. Now if my car has a 79 SC 3.0 engine in it the airbox should have the 45MM version not the 39MM. Shouldn't it? The air intakes on my car are 39MM the part number is 911.110.206.2r. The chasis number of my car is 9119310138 which is a ROW 79 targa. The engine number is 6390326 but i dont know if its the original engine. What do i do? is there a way of connecting the new airbox or will i have to buy a new airbox with 39MM runner sleeves. also how do i identify what new airbox to buy? would it be the 911 74-77, 80-83 as it has 39MM intake runner sleeves. A seriously bummed, Pazz 79 SC Targa (maybe) |

Pazz, Have you found the engine 'type' number designation on the block near the serial number? It should read 911/xx or 930/xx ... and from there you should have a little better luck tracking down which engine you have. Good luck!
