R Wind defogger, slow window mtr
Problem # 1:
I just recently had to use the rear window defogger, I have a 2 stage defogger switch. This is the problem, it is either not working or it is so slow to work that I might as well crawl back there and wipe the rear window down. Is this typical in early 70's 911's? Mine is a 1974 Coupe. (oops, I haven't checked the fuse yet) Problem # 2: The power windows are slowwwww,(drivers side 5-8 seconds) especially the passenger side (about 8-10 seconds). How can I speed up the motor? Is there a way to upgrade to a faster motor? Is there a switch available that will allow a 1 touch lowering of the window...I like to keep my hands on the steering wheel as much as possible. Thanks all, this is a great forum and I have picked up many tips. Chris ------------------ Shakenbake |
Checked your fuse yet?
Seriously, I don't think there is a specific or 'magic' answer to the type of problems you are asking about. The type of fuses and 1/4" 'quick-disconnect' connectors Porsche uses are subject to corrosion after many years. What it takes, in most cases, is an afternoon of methodical work that is neither high-techn nor hard. Performance Products has a set of brushes called 'Electri-Fix' that are specially shaped to clean several types of connectoes, but what is called a 'stainless steel toothbrush' and a common ink eraser will suffice for most connectors! Male 1/4" quick-disconnects need to be cleaned on both sides, and the female connectors can be cleaned to certain extent with the 'toothbrush' ... sometimes a small bottlecap of vinegar can be useful in removing corrosion that is stubborn! Be sure to rinse with water and dry before re-establishing the connection! Vaseline, or Dow-Corning 111 silicone grease applied sparingly can be helpful to protect connections from future corrosion. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
