The engine numbers are 8 digits: 1 - type of engine (6, six cylinder). 2 - engine types (usually 4 for 911 delivered to US). 3 - model year (J 1988, K 1989 etc. Remaining numbers 45978, are the serial numbers, starts at 60. Example 63 K 00937 Six cylinder engine for the US application built in model year 1989 as the 877th standard engine. The C that you speak of may be a 0 to fit these guidelines. P5P5 is the paint code. TP Is the interior material color. The other codes are options 158 - Radio Reno, 395 - light metal wheels, forged, 454 - automatic speed control, 650 - Sunroof. Its fortunate you have the sticker, it shows how your car was ordered at the factory. So was I right, Let me know. Michael

89911,
Thanks for your response, you touched 'em all. Paint white,Blue interior, Reno, 16" forged Fuch
alloys ,speed control and sunroof. Where did you get the codes? I thought for awhile that j=89 but it looks as though the letter I is skipped as a designator, too close to 1 ? So h=87 j=88 k=89 .when checking the #'s this morning per " The Used 911 Story" I thought perhaps I had an 89. I would guess that you do have an 89 and would be willing to tell me of any differences between the 88 and 89. I haven't discovered any in the Bulletin Board discourse.
Is having a special order from the factory of any significance or is the sticker I have the important thing? The car also came w/ the window sticker, perhaps those numbers appear there as well..... NOPE..just checked the window sticker just shows the items, no numbers.
By the way the factory sticker shows a price of about $52,000. The car now has 39,000 mi.and is 12 yrs. old. Porsche Market letter suggests around $28,000 w/ this mi.in excellent cond. Thats only $2,000 a year in depreciation to own a Porsche from new.Maint and deprec. not incl.
Hope to hear from you,
Michael

My engine code is 64KO4609. This is for a 1989 911 coupe. All those codes are in the Porsche 911 performance Handbook. The other codes a got from a technical bulletin on 1989 911's I purchased on Ebay. Hey, by the way, I was in Pep Boys and they have paint to match your artic white. It falls under a VW name but it looks like that same shade. For small chips, the paint shade is not critical. And it was $2.99. There is a cross reference to use. Michael.
