Quick Carrera chain tensioner question

Just reiceived my carerra cam chain tensioner kit today. Does my 79 ROW 3.0 need the tensioner spacers?

I remember reading early engines need em but cant find if a 3 liter needs em.

TIA
-Jeff

I think a 79 does need them. The idler arms were updated sometime in the early 80's I believe. You'll be able to tell because the spacer won't fit if you don't need it. You should get the updated arms anyway. I got mine from Partsheaven (used/cheap).

Get Waynes book 101 Projects, to be sure. Years are listed in there. You SHOULD have it anyway if you are going to do this for the first time....this is one job you must do correctly.
Re: spacers, I also believe you will need them .
I needed them in my 79 Sc,and they are workin like they should be.
. Installed at beginning of summer .
Oil feds were added as oem in 84?? I believe.

The improved idler arms were introduced in '81 MY.
