Early Porsche 911 Dash Restoration in Black Leather - What do you think?

Pelicans:

Just want to share the excitement with our early 911 Dash restored in "German Supersoft Leather".

We even covered the speaker grille with leather and hand punched each individual hole!

This dash is going into a 1972 911 S I am restoring from the ground up.

Thank you,
Jason

That's nice.

What will it cost to duplicate?

Very nice! I wouldn't want to guess at the cost of replacement, factoring in the time spent.

But...if you have time/patience/skill to punch all those holes by hand, you must be "Rain Man" or something!

What condition was the base in before you covered it with the new leather? I'm considering doing the same - the base is good (no cracks) but the leather is tearing at the stitching.

Is this going to be part of your business? I'd like to know pricing - tho I probably can't afford it...

Interior has always been passion - I typically charge $550/600 for a restored dash complete.

The speaker grille has always inhibited me from restoring early dashes, we got it down now!

Now the challenge is finding them!!! I steer away from leather dashes that are warped or dashes that are rusted or severely cracked.

1 out of 3 dashes I find are restoration candidates.

I typically sell what I have restored. I steer away from taking on upholstery jobs, as we know its takes a long time to complete the work. In addition have had core issues in the past.

So I process all the cherry cores in Black leather to include, consoles-dashes-knee guards-door tops-sport seats-rear seats-ash trays-rear package trays-rear interior quarter panels & tops etc.

We also restore Targa tops – I will brief the board on more interior restorations!

Thank you,
Jason

Excellent Question!

If you a leave your 911 outside in Phoenix, AZ for 3 summers in a row, yes we will have problems!

Lexol – Treat the seats as you would high-end leather seats and you will get a wonderful life out of the leather.

We cover the dashes to OEM Spec.

Thank you,
Jason

Good point Jason... Leather shrinks as it dries out. In extreme cases, it cracks and tears. Keep it hydrated and it won't shrink & warp the substrate. Also properly hydrated; it will last a very long time.

IMO: When it comes to seats; Too much hydration allows the leather to stretch a lot. You end up with that stretched out look, if you know what I mean.
