1972 Oil cap Is it Unique?

I tried searching old posts, but nothing really right on target. I also checked Pelican's part database, but found caps for 68- 71 years. Ok enough of my preface...

I can't locate the oil cap to my 72 car. Tried fitting an oil cap from a 68' parts car and a 71' too, but neither work...Is the 72 cap unique? Anyone have one? A part number perhaps?

Any help on the subject is appreciated.

The oil cap's original part number is 911.207.271.00. That is from my original 72-72 parts book. The 73 cap part number is different. My original oil cap has oil stamped in it plus a sticker that says oil on it.

It is different. But you can use one from an early rabbit if you don't mind the look.

Some caps read OIL and some read 710, they both seem to work okay.

Thanks to all who responded. I think they are unique, but shown on our host's website for older 356 cars that will fit.

Other year's are the same as the gascap - '72 oil cap is unique.

It's more than stickers or markings, the'72 cap is unique in it's fastening lugs...so yes, you need to find a cap specifically for the '72 model year.

Mark - that's a great looking project with beautiful work on the filler door. Care to post some more pix?

72 Oil Cap

Hi Scott,
Look at Wayne's Porsche Parade Photos also on this 911 Tech Forum. My car at Gary Emory's campout. Thanks for the nice compliment on the 57 coupe project.
