How to make wheels? BBS 3pc for ex.??

I see outer and inner halves with or without centers 20 bolts or 32?

How can I tell what I need if I were to try and build a 7-7.5 x 16 front and 9 x16 rear to bolt on to my SC w/o spacers? I under stand some of the basics in wheel dimensioning, but if you feel like refreshing my memory thats fine ;)

Logically, inner + outer width should be rim width. Do I need to add something for the center? Then there is the offset or back spacing problem... which is where I loose it :D

Please educate me!

Best regards,

Michael

This isn't a DIY sort of thing, deal w/ a reputable wheel supplier.

That said the 3 pieces of a 3 pice wheel are the outer and inner halfs and the center

here is a bare center for a Kinesis

here the outer half is attached

here is the back of the center piece, the inner half bolts here.

for use on an SC/Carrera a 7.5" front will want ET of from +23 to +31(I would shoot for 25)

the 9" rears will want ET of ~11-19mm(I would shoot for 15)

Thanks Bill. Curious though, if it's not a DIY thing then why do I see all kinds of outers and inners for sale on the parts forum? Do they buy all the parts and send them off somewhere?

Best regards,

Michael

Might be some confusion here with DIY referring to the conversion of a 6" fuchs wheel to be used as a center versus using a BBS brand center.

If you use BBS centers you certainly can assemble them yourself. BBS centers are a little rare on their own, most often you have to part a set of wheels to get them then acquire additional halves as needed to create the desired offset.

Converting the 6" fuchs wheels to be used as centers is a simple concept, however attention must be paid to the contour when machining to ensure there sufficient strength remaining. I have heard of a couple companies who did, or will do the conversions.

I have some good centers and outter rims for a set of BBS 3 piece wheels 32 bolt. (I think) I need some outter rims because a few have big bends (Beyond straightening.)

Who sells the outter rims for these?
I know that swoping the rims are done often. There are some VW's that like the look of oversized (Width) rims with skinny tires. Who knows why.
