Power seat problem
I have a 1986 targa. It has power seats with two controls. I for up and down and the second for tilting the seat. The control that tilts the seat works fine however when I attempt to activate the other control I hear a click but nothing else happens. Any thoughts on what the problem may be??

The gear or drive cable could be jammed. I would pull the seat out, turn it upside down, leave it plugged in and see what's going on.

Had the same problem when I got my car. Turned out to be the switch. Seat was as far as it would go one way and would click when you tried to get it to go any farther. Switch was dirty and did not make contact to go the other way. Took switch a part and cleaned. Has worked well so far since cleaning If you do clean becareful of the little balls that sit on the springs inside the switch. Just a thought. Good luck

I've got a similar problem with my 86 coupe. When I disconnect the flex shaft, the motor spins freely; when the flex shaft is connected it binds. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot? I also suspect that the switch is dirty as well since it only works in one direction. Regarding the switches, how are they separated from the "panel" on the side of the seat. I've freed the "panel; I just don't see how the switches are removed from that piece.
Many thanks. Mike |
