Can't get tranny drain plug out. OK to pump from fill hole?

I've tried heat, leverage, PB Blaster, searches, etc. but can't get the transmission drain plug out. Is it okay to pump it out from the fill hole with which I have no problem?

O.K, but doubt if you will get all the tranny oil out.

Well. You can't get all the motor oil out either.

With the gears in the way it will be difficult. That said, feel the oil you are removing by rubbing between your fingers and try and determine how much metal there is in there. That would be my concern by only removing about half the oil and leaving the metal mixed in with new oil. That plug will come out, even if you need to take it to a shop to have it cracked loose for you. Better to get all the old oil out IMHO.

Thanks. I think I'll follow your suggestion. I had a warm transmission, the proper allen socket from our host being pressed into the plug by a floor jack o it couldn't shift, a long pipe on the end of a breaker bar, and I couldn't get it to budge. I am afraid of stripping the plug (or worse!)

There is a shop near Ryebrook, an Exxon station I think, and I have seen all kinds of very expensive cars being worked on there. If I remember right, it is that Playland Park at exit 20 or 21, last one before CT on 95.

Thanks. I know where I can take it locally for a job like this.

Probably a silly question, and I sincerely am not trying to insult your intelligence, but are you sure you're "loosening" it in the correct direction? "Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey"

Yup, that was the worst project so far in my book. I had to manufacture a home made breaker bar that was almost 1 meter long to get enough momentum on that bugger.

The PO with the gorilla hands have since then been 'corrected'..

For a real local shop...this is gonna sound crazy, absolutely crazy, but here it goes, take it to one of the 15 minute oil change places with your tool and a breaker bar, ask them if YOU can try to get the trans plug loose. Tell them you will pay the 18.99 for a trans service if you must. Being able to stand up and having the car sitting on its tires is a definite plus. Leverage and stability = torque, which = loose drain plugs. The bay wall is an excellent place to gain leverage, better than a Lift,(imo) but will be OILY, so bring a spare set of shoes and shirt...Worth less than two cents but always worked for me and all my old beetles(17mm Allen)... GOOD LUCK

If you're putting motor oil in your tranny you have other problems.

As I said, I'm afraid of stripping the plug.
