figuring out what year a part is from
If I have a 911 part on my shelf made by Bosch, how do I go from having the Bosch part number to knowing what year 911 it came from? Example: I have a Bosch fuel accumulator 0438170031. But my Porsche catalogue lists all the fuel accumulators using the 911 xxxxxx nomenclature. That doesn't help me figure out what year the fuel accumulator is from? There must be a website which would allow for this conversion.

Looks like it's good for 1981-1983 SC
Click "Part numbers cross reference" on the left side of page http://members.rennlist.com/jimwms/CIS/CIShome.html

Vin-barrett,
What if you have a Bosch component that is not part of the CIS system? Say a starter, or any other part? Isn' there a site that allows all 911 parts to be cross referenced? Or do you have to search for each part in different places?

Wish I could tell ya.
The only way I know of to do that is with a microfiche from the manufacturer. Microfiche has gotten scarce since dealers have gone to Electronic parts catalogs years ago. Additionally I don't think it's information that some would want circulating as buying parts by Bosch part number instead of Manufacturer part number could cut the Mfg. out of the loop (read no Porsche tax). If there's a resource for this online somewhere I would love to see it. That said I use Bosch conversion microfiche for Mercedes all the time. And yes it has saved me money. Here's what it looks like ![]()
