1974 911 Fuch 15 x 5.5 - adding 1" adapter

I am looking to fill up the wheel well a little more. I am using Fuch's wheels (1968 911 s) 15x5.5 on a 1974 Porsche 911 narrow body.

Could I use a 1" adapter to provide a greater wheel stance? Will the car handle better? Cornering? Tire wear faster? Vibration?

I have notice that some Porsche's came with adapters or spacers. Please let me know what you think about this idea.

I notice that later model wheels will work on the older 911's. What newer style wheels, sizes and widths will work?

Thanks
