Illinois Emissions reg's
Hey gang, I have an 82 Euro Turbo that I just got an emissions notice for. I can't possibly pass. The previous owner had an EPA waiver from Federal and New Hampshire State gov't.
THe Illinois EPA told me "tough patooties" and I still have to have it tested. It won't pass of course. Anyone from Illinois know what I should do? Thanks, Chris |

Take it in and get it tested, who know, it may pass. Just be sure to drive around for a half an hour to get the engine nice and hot Cold engine will definitely fail the test because of the rich mixture. If you fail, bring it to a mechanic and ask him for a tune up. Bring it back and if it fail agian ask for a waiver if you spent more than three hundred dollard trying to get it to pass the test. If you don't bring it in, the state will suspend the plates for the car, so you won't be able to drive it leagally on the road.

Take a look at the website for the Illinois Evironmental protection Agency which is the governing body for the test. The URL is http://www.epa.state.il.us/ there is a section entitled "Vehicle Emissions" which contains a great deal of information regarding test proceedures, requirements, waivers, etc. There is even a downloadable 37 page booklet that is very descriptive. Good Luck! I'm going through the same thing with my '72 911 although it is not a Euro.

Thanks for the replies. I was also told that as long as the car shows improvement on the second test, I can apply for a waiver...
Should be no problem, temporary turn of the mixture screw should help! |
