Power Window Problem
 

Starting having problems with my passenger window today. Here’s what my issue is:

- Drove to work - windows down.
- When I went to roll them up I noticed that my switch was stuck in the down position.
- Had to toggle the switch a couple of times but then it rolled back up.
- Upon leaving work the passenger window would not roll down with either the driver or the passengers switch.
- Replaced both switches when I got home (passenger and driver controlled passenger switch)
- Verified no blown fuse

The window still doesn’t work but then I use either window switch I hear a click in the door. Not a clicking but just one click that corresponds with me toggling the switch.

Please help me diagnose my problem.

Start by examining the wires at the switches. Sometimes they just need to be snugged up onto the blades. Check the wiring on the switches. Verify that the switches are indeed wired correctly. This should help you at least get started.

I suggest that it is an issue located in the wiring then. Start by verifying you are getting power to the passenger's door switch. If you are, check the driver's side switch for power. I belive there is one main feed from the fuse box to all three switches. You may want to pull the door panel off so you can get at the wires that run in the door easier.

Were the switches you installed new or do you know that they work?

Anyone else had this issue?

Try doing a search here. Lots have had this problem. It usually ends up being a simple fix.

Try to apply 12 volts directly to the motor leads, then flip them around [reverse the polarity] and try it again. If the motor doesn't work this will pretty much narrow the problem to the motor itself or the short harness that feeds it. You can perform this test with the door panel in place.

So I go home and try to troubleshoot my problem. First I put the meter on the switches - all ok. Then I proceed to take off the door panel to dig further. I decide to give the inner door a little love tap (where the motor is), OK maybe I was a little frustrated. Then the window proceeds to roll down on its own????? Power off and switch removed mind you???? So I wire up the switch and give it power and everything works just fine. Put the door panel back on and took her out for a well deserved ride as a reward. Maybe something was jammed and I really didnt understand what happened but I'm pleased!!!!
