M&K MUffler Install Question

Hello Everyone-

So I've got my muffler "installed' I say this in quotes as I have not been able to succesfully attach the straps Ben supplied me with onto the muffler. I am currently using the old straps which are obiously too long. Ben has graciously offered me longer straps but have noticed other posting where people have strapped the muffler on with no problem

So before I take Ben up on his offer, I have a few questions of y'all. Attached are pics, not of my car but of the relevant spots and with an explanation of what I'm doing- hopefully I can get some help...

I am bringing the straps over and around the bracket arms (Circled by the yellow lines) and then around the muffler itself but then I don't have enough slack to bring the strap together.

What is the bracket that I have circled below???

Thanks for any help you all might give me....

are you mounting a muffler to a 3.2 w one inlet? I have just done this and used one of the straps from Ben and the (shorter) of the older ones. I used stainless wire to pull the ends of the older strap closer and then used a longer hex bolt that I got from a local machine shop to secure the strap.

Widgeon- yes it's a 3.2 with a 1 in 1 out M&K. I understand what your saying. . . but more to the point am I bringing the strap around the bracket correctly - I can't imagine them going around the bracket any other way (see the first pic.).

Thanks!

One strap goes around the bracket as the first pic shows and the second strap goes around the heat exchanger plumbing as in the second pic. As I mentioned I could only use one of Ben's straps but figured out from some previous posts the idea of pulling the ends of the old strap closer together using the safety wire. I was able to get it all tight on my car but the right outlet is giving me some fits. I am going to CT (tomorrow) where the car is and will take some pics as I want to get some shots to Ben and I will try to post here as well. Hope that is helpful but it sounds as if you have everything in the proper location.

I am kind of confused from all this my self. I think that the longer straps that come in the kit were suppose to be longer. I will recheck what was ordered and I would be happy to get you longer ones if needed..

Hi Ben-

Just to be clear- I do appreciate the offer. I'm just making sure there isn't a poor mechanic ability (which is possible- I might be a slightly better lawyer than a mechanic). I did check the straps as we discussed last week and one was in fact a slightly larger diameter - which leads me to believe I am not strapping it on correctly to the bracket.

Thanks!

*** UPDATE ***

So the Large Diameter (size 132 Ben) strap went on the drivers side- I need an even larger diameter strap for the right side (the Passenger side). At any rate. . . now for a test drive again. . . . . . .

Couple pics of my installation, you can see both old and new straps used and where they went.

Thanks for the thread link widgeon... Seems to work fine with the one strap on the drivers side. My original straps are too long or too short for the passenger side bracket. I spoke with Ben this morning. . . he is sending me a slightly longer strap for the passenger side.

What has me really excited is the thought of his turbo upgrade . . . .

I would love a turbo but can get in enough trouble with what I have now so will leave it be for now. Glad you are up and running. Regards
