Do you agree on my price for this car?

1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. Guards red with champagne beige interior. It is gorgeous inside and out. This fine automobile has been loved and babied its entire life. All original interior, top, tool kit, books and records. This beauty has been housed under cover in a climate controlled environment and properly maintained including a recent tune up. The 911 has a custom bra, and sits on Pirelli tires and Fuchs wheels. With its exceptional condition inside and out, combined with its low mileage, this is the perfect car for a true collector. It drives and handles great with plenty of power to spare. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions or concerns on this vehicle.

26,163 Miles

$28,900

I see euro tail lights, and a dash that is warped.

I am thinking the market price to be around 22K, am I way off?

I'd love to see what's lurking under those sheepskins. Yes, it looks OK and has low miles, but IMHO I think 28.9K is about 8-10K too high.

Yes

Thats about what i would expect to pay for a straight cab with miles in the 20s. The gentlemen that said 8 to 10k too high where have you seen carrera cabs like this for 18k? Im gonna buy as many at that price as can find/afford!

I have an 84 ROW cab that is not in as nice of shape as yours; it has a tired 915 and some rock chips. and a couple of other small things I'd like to sort out. But I can't imagine that car is worth almost twice mine. Deduct for rock chips, ROW status, and tired 915, and my car at $15,000 is still a way better deal. I do think you can buy cars like mine for $15,000.

tonypeoni, I guess in IN there are not too many deals. I've looked at MANY 80's cabriolets in very good shape/ low miles in the high teens - low 20's. Just have to keep looking. Yes, the miles are low, but that amount of $ is a stretch IMHO. You can even find a nice 993 cab for the asking price of this one.

I was under the impression that a cap pulls quite a premium over a coupe. So if this cars only worth 18k then whats a coupe in identical condition worth? Why on earth are people paying 20k for engine rebuilds on these cars?

I think there was a "market evaluation" in Excellence a few issues ago, can't remember which one. But just for example, I recently bought an 1-owner garaged GP white/brown '86 Carrera with 61K miles and EVERY receipt for it's entire life for 13K. Great condition, even with a new Sanden compressor.

I would definitely do a PPI. Miles that low can be a bad thing on these cars. It's also important to consider how hard it is to find a buyer who will pay top dollar for a low miles car. Not an issue for you right now (obviously), but it may be in the future when you go to sell it.

May not be much help but these are real world experiences that I can confirm from having been involved.

Last year a good buddy picked up this '89 from a small dealer on the west coast of Florida (we live on the east coast). 23K original documented miles for $27,500 we both thought it was a bit high but it's a real nice car that checked out well and had some maintenance work done to ensure everything was as it should be. Time and lack of use are not your friends. The fairly rare color combo was worth a couple of thousand more to my buddy as well.

Now also last year I found this 993 for my wife. It was a local private sale. The car had a near perfect interior and very good exterior. The paint looks excellent now after some TLC. Unfortunately, it's a tip but the reality is that the tip hasn't been a big deal at all. 64K miles for $25,500.

That should help make your decision easier

In northern california it seems to me that cabs consistently sell for 4-5k more than coupes. I think from what I have seen here the car is worth the price you mention to the right person. I know of two very nice 86 cabs with 95-105k miles that sold in the sacramento california area within the last three weeks and they sold for $24500 and $23000. I would think someone would pay 3-4k more for the miles of the car you mention. I think there is really an a$$ for every seat. If you really like the car you better make a reasonable offer. people who are selling these older porsches are often not in a hurry so they can wait it out. people also may get offended if you low ball them. It may be better to ask what their bottom line is and if it is too high for what you want to pay move on, if it is close then counter offer. I have had this happen to me recently on another vehicle and it pissed me off to the point where the guy called me and offered me my asking price later and I told him no. be courteous and pay only what you are comfortable with. I recently paid top dollar for a 1985 carrera factory turbo look and the minute I wrote the check It did not bother me any more because I had the car I wanted. Sorry for rambling.

Excellence says that a '85 TL in great shape with normal miles, which would be at least 60k should go for close to $28k. Super low miles, add about $2.5-3K. The one-off models of the Carrera like the TL, Anniversary and Speedster seem to be leading the way in the price jump now that the desirable early 70's cars are out of reach for mere mortals.

I just can't figure out why anyone would want a Porsche with the roof chopped off.

...that being sad though, all the cars pictured in this thread were very nice looking PWTRCO cars!

Because cabs rule. Real men drive sportscars without tops - wind in the hair, smell of exhaust, nature, grit in your teeth. Add a flat six orchestra in the rear and I am not sure you can go wrong.
