Help with possible ebay scam
The phone number on the auction is disconnected.
A new ebay seller, registered Aug 2. Feedback rating of 1 with another new ebay seller (they have only given feedback among themselves, with the auction in question having no photos. Feedback wording is nearly identical.) Photo indicates 'Sportomatic' yet ad indicates a manual transmission (and even a new clutch.) There is no clutch pedal in the photo. Lastly, $4800 'buy it now' price for a 911T in this condition is obviously too good to be true. My guess is he's looking to get a quick deposit, and then scram... Pelican readers, what do you think? |

This car was discussed on another thread yesterday with some suggesting it is a scam.

Figured as much. I didn't see that thread. The 'seller' has not replied to any emails, either to the ebay email, or the personal email listed.

As a rule of thumb I consider every single auction that requires pre-approved bidders to be a scam. The seller is usually looking for your identity information only.
I searched for my 911 for more than one solid year. I probably saw every car in the market through all of the usual sources. It was amazing to me how many times I saw the same car listed twice. Once by the legitimate seller and once by an EBAY scammer that just lifted the picture and set up an ad requiring pre-approved bidder. It is a scam, no more, no less!

I know this is kind of a threadjack, (ITS A SCAM, BTW), but
Does a sporto have a clutch pedal anyway? I mean, are there any cosmetic differences between a M/T and a sporto, besides the obvious "sportomatic" on the back?

A sportomatic car doesn't have a clutch pedal.

Yes, Sportomatics have only two pedals like any other automatic. I think you *can* replace the clutch in these, as the system works similar to a manual transmission.

You can anticipate receiving a "Your E-Bay Account Needs Immediate Attention Before Suspension" e-mail in the near future... Remember folks. If it sounds too good to be true it is (not "probably is", but "is")... |

I don't see a "buy Now" option.
Also, even a none-scam (how you know if it's scam or non-scam?) item, you will have to pay first, then ship. Unless you want to come and pick it up.

When purchasing expensive items/cars on-line, I require the seller to fax me a copy of their driver's license and a utility bill with their name on it. I will only send the deposit to that name at that address. If they want their money, they fax. If they balk, no dough, moe... rnln...in two threads on this very auction, you are so skeptical of us who are trying to inform others of the scam. Do me a big favor...PLEASE bid on this car and send the guy a deposit. Please? |

This scam is so old I am surprised people still fall for it....oh and ebay knows all about it... when your account is hijacked and they list dozens of phony items to try and worm down payments out of people ebay knows that too. Ebay collects the listing fee from you then ( hijacked account), and when you complain they give you an ebay credit but they keep the fee. They have no incentive to really close a loop hole which makes them money.

The kicker is this advertisement for the same car (same photos and text) from Long Island as revealed in the previous thread:

Danny_Ocean,
Do you think you make too much sense? I have not said anything about this is dinifitely not scam. I just unsure about it. Do you think if anyone don't agree with you then that person should go ahead and buy the car???? Yes, I didn't read the line saying Buy Now for $4,800. I assumed there should be an option to click. Now, I agree that this auction is more likely a scam since he wants to Sell it Now for so cheap. But your arguement of "go ahead bid on it" is rediculous. Added, If you posted this thread only to warn people "this definitely a scam", then anyone can input their opinion, in peace. If you really consider this car, then why do you even considered it while "knowing" it is definitely a scam? My personal experience when I sold my cars on Ebay. Both times, I had people emailed me asking questions and many claimed that I was a scam after reading my responses of any unsure about the car. Some people just jump to conclusion too soon. That's all my message is.

Back to orig thread-
It's a scam- The "pre approved" requirement is a tip. Nice car but no reserve and at $3500 now- doesn't take a genius. Fck with him- send like 140 emails asking any question you can think of (does the car come with the plants in the picture?) / ![]() |
