993 to Long Hood conversion exhaust a la' MK Exhaust

Here's MK Exhaust's latest 993 conversion to early car muffler!! Thought you all might be interested in some photos, especially those with sticker shock from exhaust solutions by Timmons and others.

Some weeks ago, Ben provided me with the basic muffler pieces and I tacked it together so it fit my car well. I then sent it back to him, so he could build a jig and finish weld and assemble this. It should fit other early cars well, my tub is a 1971. Compared to my first generation MK Exhaust, this is definitely quieter, though not subtle by any means.

The muffler body and tips are a brushed stainless finish.

This application (engine - notice the 964 valve covers) is a 964 bottom end with 993 heads, back dated cams, cam towers (964) (+ manual rockers) and '95 intake and engine management. The heat exhangers are factory 993.

How's that lift? Could you post some pictures how and where it fits under your car. Is Ben planning a muffler for cars that want to use the heat tube?

Ben,

Was wondering about heat as well. Ever do anything with a cat in the system for the 993 HE's and a 964 engine?

Looks great! However, what are you going to do about smog? If I remember correctly, isn't your car a backdated Carrera? Just wondering because I'm looking into the 993 exhaust on my 964 but can't figure out where to put the cats. None the less, I bet it sounds mean!

Regards,

Nothing with cats! I was going to look into becoming certified to resell cats but have not yet.

I too am grappling with the heat issue. I've been meaning to visit a muffler shop to pick up some reducers/adapters in order to fab up the ducting, but I haven't been motivated to do it as the temps are finally warm in the Bay Area. The 993 heater hoses that go from the HE's to the flapper boxes would work, but would require a solution to extend them to the flappers. Those 993 hoses are also very expensive new.

Just spoke with doug,

He is going to mock something up for us within the next few weeks so we can make an easy adapter kit for heat.

Doug good luck on the first spin in the car

No yours will look like a standard 2 in 1 out with the exception of being for the 3.6 with bishoff exchangers

For those of you running stock HE's (like Doug) this probably the best solution out there. It doesn't put lbs out back, it is well made and simple to install. Having had the chance to work with one of Ben's mufflers I can tell everyone that they rock.

Doug thanks for posting this status. Let us know what you come up with on the heat front.

Ben,

Have you done any noise testing on your new 993 mufflers?

My local track in the UK is now limited to 98db measured at 0.5m (at 45 degrees) whilst others are typically running at 101db.

Thx
