Memphis Motor Werks

Time to rebuild the motor in my 76 Turbo. I live in the Southeast U.S. so would prefer a shop in the Eastern U.S. Does anybody have experience with Memphis Motor Werks? Also, aside from Raceware studs and rod bolts, are there any recommendations for upgrades while the motor is completely down (3.0 Turbo). Has anyone replaced the exhaust and valve cover studs with stainless?

A close friend of mine runs Porsche's tech school, he just had Memphis Motorwerks do the heads on his own 79 930 and he said the work was gorgeous.

As far as your stud replacement idea goes, yes, I have replaced exhaust studs with stainless replacements! Metric & Multistandard Components, Inc. has 8 mm all-thread rods in both 304 and 316 stainless. Any local bolt supply house should be familiar with MMC, they have offices in Dallas, Hawthorne NY, Lyons IL (Chicago area). I have purchased from them direct, for over 20 years. They also have hex nuts, and washers in stainless, a good idea for heat exchanger applications!

A suggestion about Memphis Motor Werks....do not let them do anything radical. Every now and then, they get the idea to try something new on an engine and say it will give you more horsepower. I had a friend that let them do this...and he ended up with less power.

The work is very meticulous, though. They do great work for a price$$$

Memphis Motor Werks just finished rebuilding my '77 2.7 in February. I carried them the engine, let them tear it down and give me an estimate to rebuild. The estimate including all parts, labor, installation of engine and checking out all systems was approx. 8k. The amazing thing, the final bill was also approx. 8k!!
The rebuild took about 3 weeks longer than they promised and I'm still wating for a response from them on three overcharges. Other than these two items I was very pleased with their work.
Let me know if you have any other questions about MMW.

Thanks for the info, all sounds positive so I'm going to go with them for the rebuild.
