Look what I did this weekend - 915 upgrade

Thanks to an old clutch disk, parts of MikeZ's old bedframe and a bottle of compressed nitrogen I was able to throw the Wevo bearing retainer plate into my 915. Everything went smooth as silk. Saturday I dropped the engine and Sunday I cracked open the 915, put the retaining plate in and zipped it up again.

What is amazing is that both bearing races where still firm in their seats after 16.000 miles with the 3.6 engine. Knock on wood.

Two shafts with the one-piece bearing retainer ready to go back into the tranny

Soecial tool made from a clutch disk and parts of MikeZ's old bed frame

Shafts installed

I put 16.000 miles on the 3.6 through mine. And as I said my bearing races are still tight in their seats. The key is to have proper cooling when tracking your car. I think 300HP is what folks tend to state for safe power levels.

Ingo-
Excellent work!

Who would have thought Mike's bedframe would come in so handy!

How was the bedframe clutch tool used? (to hold the input shaft in place?)

Doug

We put the input shaft into a vice grabbing the 42mm nut. The other end of the shaft was supported by a 2X4 cut to length to keep the shaft level. Then the bedframe tool was used to turn the shaft and thereby loosening the 42mm nut. Worked like a charm.

Trailer Trash Engineering at it's best.....

As to Horsepower.....we are running a little south of 280HP with the No Bad Days chip, equal length 993 heat exchangers and a free flow muffler.

Since my 3.6 is in a 83 SC, I have a catalytic converter as well.

Ingo did the WEVO upgrade to keep from getting the bearing races race loose like mine did. I grenaded second gear. I was able to save it (except the 2nd gear set) by shutting down ASAP.

Dennis Aase hogged out the race, did a press in and WE ADDED the wevo FIX....
