Emergency Brake Cable came off...

The E-brake has been slightly out of adjustment for a while but held fine as long as I pulled way up on the handle (in hindsight I should have taken the time to adjust it) I put it on and it wasn't holding the car, so I pulled a little more and "SPRANG" it lost all friction and the cables are now dangling down below.
Do I need to order new cables or can I reconnect at the brake handle?

Thanks.

D

D,

If by "dangling down below" you mean they are no longer attached at the wheels and are hanging under the trailing arms, then I'd say you'll need new cables and probably some other stuff.

Or, if the cables have pulled out of the tunnel and they, along with the outer jackets are now only attached to the wheels, and dangling just behind the tunnel, I'd say you'll need new cables and probably some other stuff.

In other words, I expect you'll find some "while you're there" type repairs needed.

It is possible that one side slipped off the yoke because it was way too loose and found its way to the edge of the yoke. Of course, the other will lose tension if this happens. The only way to tell for sure is to unbolt the handbrake lever ass'y from the tunnel and take a looksee.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will have a look at removing the handbrake assembly and try to see what happened.
Otherwise it looks like I will have to install new handbrake cables...Is this too challenging for a novice? Do I have to disconnect the brake lines at the rear calipers as the Bentley manual suggests?

OK...
So I took the emergency brake apart. The "Yoke" had come off of the handle due to the handle been very bent at the attachment point. I used a nut and a bolt to put it back together.
I wanted to do the hadbrake adjustment at the rear wheels in conjunction with an oil change. I did the adjstment on one side by turning the small cogged wheel. I then went around to the other side. And peered through the hole looking for the adjuster, looked through every which way with a bright light.
There is no adjuster on that side! How is this possible??!!
Now I need to take the caliper and rotor off to see what the deal is...Will do it next week...
Good news is this was my smoothest oil change
