Door rattle? New striker plate...what's next?

Rattles when hitting larger bumps, I just replaced the striker plate and it improved but I still get a rattle. What else could be the cause. Any advice is appreciated. I will probably pull the door panel off this weekend to see if I can isolate the area that the rattle is coming from. The drivers door currently has 2-1mm shims, I also replaced the bolts.

Chris,

Just wondering... when you replaced the striker plates, did you get new ones or old ones? It is important that none of the plastic pieces in the striker is broken or missing. I just replaced the 2 strikers which were slightly broken and the car is now much quieter.

Also, what year is your car? In my '73 911, my ratty door pocket hinges need to be tightened occasionally as well as the bolts holding the arm rests.

Hey, My car had the same rattle. My problem was loose window regulator bolts. If your bolts are tight. You will find the problem as soon as you get the panel off anyway.

I bought a new striker plate and bolts from Pelican. My car is a 1974 Coupe. I do believe that the old striker plate had worn because with the new one the rattle isn't as bad. I cannot duplicate the movement by pulling on the door. It does sound like it might be in the window mechanism...I'll let you know this weekend.

I got the door panel off today and discovered the source of the rattle. It seems that the door lock linkage and the door opening mechanism linkage both have small rubber bushings that attach to the door frame and both of them were detached. I reattached them, covered the inners of the bushings with silicon grease and put everything back together....no rattles.

Have you tried a new door seal?
