3.2 SSI's on a 2.7???
will the 3.2 SSI's, listed in the parts for sale section work on a 2.7??? Thick flange is OK, bung is OK. Are the exhaust ports of the 2.7 vs. the SSI diamater OK?

SSI's are all the same, when used on smaller 2.2's all the way up to the 3.2's. They are considered by many to be a bit restrictive for the 3.2 and larger applications, at least for any high RPM power. SSI's will work great on a 2.7-- they will be appropriately sized. I've read they were designed around the '74 exchangers, which were obviously for a 2.7. You may need to change the exhaust studs in order to account for the thick flange.

they are not all the same there extractor tubes on the larger thick flange models

The 2.7 w/the dreaded thermal reactors used thick flanges on the reactors, so that is not an issue, but as Ben points out I think that the tubing (extractor tubes) above the flanges, on the 3.2 version of the SSI's may need to be buzzed off to fit the 2.7. Thanks for the replies.

this is my SC SSI. They fit perfect to stock 2.7 heads.

Thanks Ronin. No mods required?

none to head mounting. The heat exchanger seam was hitting the tranny return spring. Some guys trim it off and some hammer it away. I gently tapped the seam upwards many many times to get a clean look. SSIs are probably the nicest low key mod you can make to your engine imo.. enjoy http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155966290.jpg |
