headlight water pump!
on the output of the headlight water pump, on my 76 911, has one hose that goes to the headlights and another hose that goes nowhere. One side is connected to the pump and the other side is loose.
Anyone knows where this hose is connected? TKS... |

I have an '83 SC. I don't recall the year of your car, but I believe yours is much like mine. I was lucky enough to fine one that is bone stock with everything working great, so if you don't get your answer, tell me where to find this washer and hoses, and I will go look and tell you.

superman, its in the front trunk, at the center right of the trunk, between the spare tire and the battery. There is a small pump witch is for the windshield and beside there is a larger one (conic) pump for the headlamp. I need to know from the bigger one.
tks... |

MMBrazil, we will get this figured out. I found the small pump next to the battery. The biger black thing is a blower for the radiator thing underneath the car's nose. I'd like to think it's an oil cooler, but I suspect it's the A/C coils. I jsut got the car in October so there are still parts I have not removed. that will change.
I don't think there are two pumps. The pump I found is like a stack of big coins, about four inches tall. Two hoses are connected. One I believe is the supply hose from the tank. The other has a short, thicker hose for the first few inches, then goes to a "T". One hose form the "T" goes to the windshield washers and the other goes into the fender at about the front of the water tank. From there I cannot tell because I have not removed front end parts, but my strong belief is that it goes to the headlight washers. The thing I cannot figure out is how the car sprays the headlights sometimes and the windshield at other times (independently) while the two systems are both connected to the pump with a "T" fitting. there are only two electrical leads to the pump. Perhaps I have missed the other pump or something. In time I can remove parts to see better, but it's an unusually beautiful day today. Let me know... |

Thats the windshield pump! In my car, looking inside the trunk, 3" to the left there is a bigger cylinder type of pump, and this is for the headlights.

Well, I cannot understand how the one pump I found could run two separate systems, so I suspect there is another pump. Also, the other pump would likely be bigger because the headlight spray seems to be under higher pressure.
There is nothing to the side of the pump I've found, except the much bigger black (semi-conical) FAN to push air through the radiator thing under the car's nose. I'm at work now so I will have to wait to take another look. Perhaps the bottle needs to come out to find the other pump. On the other hand, the pump I've found goes to two things. Pressurized water goes to BOTH windshield washers from one side of the "T". The other side SEEMS to go toward the headlight washers, so I'm not yet completely convinced there is another pump. if you have more information, pass it along. Again, we WILL solve these mysteries, as long as you are patient with me. |
