Guages Steam Up
Two of my guages "steam" up whenever the car heats up to running temperature. Wondered if anyone knows why it happens and how to correct it.
Help is much appreciated as always. Alex |

Sounds like you have a moisture leak somewhere. Have you felt around under the mats/carpet/etc? Mine did this occasionally after a hard rain, because I had a minor leak around the front windshield. When things heated up, if fogged things up a little.

Had the same thing happen with mine. At some point moisture got in. Did a search here and found it's a pretty easy fix.
1. remove gauge, note which wires go where. 2. "carefully" with a small edge, or blade go around back of the ring that holds glass. Prying a little at a time. Be patient! The reason you do this carefully is not to chip the black paint on the ring. 3. once all the way around the ring and glass should come off. 4. clean inside of glass well. 5. let sit overnight to "dry up" 6. put glass and ring back on, slowly go around back of ring pushing the metal back down. Mine never fogged up again. Hope this helps. Sean

Lots of 911s do it. My old 911 did it most of the year. Another possible fix is to drill a very small hole in the bottom of the gauge to all venting.

Mine do it too, but not so bad that they can't be read. I was thinking of getting some dessicant packs from a camera shop and placing those behind the gauges to see if that helped. They could also be easily dried out with a hair dryer I would think.
