Suspension Pan Repair

Guys,

I had a recent post about changing the suspension pan.

A hole has appeared by the left side front torsin bar front mount. About 1.5 x 1.5 inches. Also a small hole by the front towing hook.

No holes appear in the trunk area by the spare tire.

Can these underside holes be repaired, should the front pan be replaced or what is the best way forward?

Thanks
Dom

Dom it is pretty rare to have just a couple of rust holes in the front part of the suspension pan. Get a screwdriver and poke around some more both underneath the car and from the inside of the trunk. But, if those are the only holes you have you can easily weld a patch in without the need to replace the whole pan.

Kurt,

Thanks. just looked at the section. Main rust is by the tow hook in the square section. Didn't go through into the trunk, but the square section can be punched through. Probably best to replace it.

Thanks
Dom

It usually does not show in the trunk because there is a panel over top (gas tank support). When you take the panel off you see the rust around the front suspension PUs.

Dom a number of us have replaced the front suspension pan ourselves. You will find a number of threads on how to do it. But before I made any decision or started cutting out metal I would first make sure you can find a replacement pan. They have been getting harder to find.

Dansk is still producing these pans. You can get them from our host. For a detailed picture, go to the Dansk website at www.jpgroup.dk and you will find it in the body section of the 911 catalog.

Mike,

FYI, the bits do not appear on the Pelican site. Temporarily unavailable.
Anyone have experience from Restortion Design?

Best
Dom

restoration design is a premiere supplier.

I believe Pelican sells their parts, too.

Restoration design makes good stuff, but has horrible customer service. For the past 6 weeks I have been told my stuff will ship out today. Supposedly they have just completed a fresh batch of front pans. Mine should ship out today. :-(

I've had great luck with Bill @ RD. Always got my order within a week and he always called to go over the order to make sure everything was correct.
I've placed four orders without a hitch in the last six months or so.

Hope your parts come soon.

WOW Danskman neat to look through the catalog, I had no idea there was so many exhaust variations.

How come Dansk does not offer the little support bracket that goes on the inside of the front pan over the front suspension forward mount points?

Also why not a rear parcel shelf replacement piece?

And finally :-)

SSI claims there heat exchangers are superior to yours, I am curious if you are aware of any differences?

Thanks - sorry to hijack

Eric...

I believe we did produce that forward piece some time ago, but do not offer it now. Must have been low demand.

SSI's heat exchangers are excellent products. They are very well made and look fabulous. Dansk produces the same pieces without the nice touches the SSI's offer. The Dansk units perform the function of a heat exchanger perfectly - they still supply them to Porsche! The Dansk units cosmetically are not as appealing as the SSI's, but do the job, and do it well.
