Hole in 78 SC floorpan
More correctly, its what appears to be a weldnut. I noticed it this morning (after having driven in the rain for a while last night) while unloading groceries that the rug was wet behind the driver's seat. After pulling the mat out and pulling up the edges of the carpet, I see a little weldnut in the very far left hand corner of the passenger footwell, with no fastener in it. Thats definitely where the water came from, but what is supposed to go in there? Some kind of plug or something? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

What EXACTLY, do you mean by 'small weldnut' ... ??? Is it 6 mm or 8 mm, or is it more like 9/16" ? I am thinking in terms of a standard SAE fastener for seat belt anchors, or eyebolts!

Well, it turned out to be an 8mm thread. The nut was on the "inside" side of the floor pan as opposed to the "outside". I put the car up this weekend and had a good look underneath. One of the (I believe) AC hoses had a clamp located about an inch or two away, but there wasn't really anything else that would suggest something used to be there but fell off. Strange.
So, I found a bolt of the appropriate thread size, applied some silicon sealant and plugged it up. |
