front wheels tucking on '84 911 targa

I've had this car for a while. While driving the other day the front right tire started to scrub in turns and over bumps. I changed the shock and strut because that seemed to be the main load bearing part. But that didn't help. Both front tires seem to be tucked in a lil but the right is the only one scrapping. Any ideas of what this is, anyone had this prob before. I'm lost....

DaveD,

Welcome to the board. What brand, size and model of tire? Are these scraping on the fender? Also as a new member some pictures of the car are alway appreciated

What size rim and tire do you have?

If someone put oversize rim or tire on the car to look cool, you will need to replace the rim or tire or roll the fender.

Could also be a simple alignment, some people like to change the alignment because that is what the other racers are using and it the hot setup, or some people like to lower the car for that Euro look.

Take it to an alignment shop that knows the 911 and get the camber checked.

The tires and rims are stock size, I've had this car for about 8 yrs and haven't changed anything in the suspension except for replacing the shocks and struts, that was over a year ago. The right tire is scrubing on the fender. It dropped pretty suddenly, one day it was fine and when i got back from a ride it was down. Seems like something broke but i can't find any visible damage........I'll post pics later..

Broken torsion bar? Broken suspension a arm? Attachment? Just one side or both?

Sound like Jeremy identified your problem, broken torsion bar.

Both side's seem to be lower then normal but the right side is the only one scrubbing. I was thinking broken torsion bar too, but wouldn't you be able to see that. i've been under the car with the skid plate off and see no visable damage.

Nope

It's in green and it goes into the green hole... Not possible to see from the outside.

I had a similar problem, and I found it to be worn ball joints. Cheap and easy to replace and I was amazed how much better the car handled, plus minus the rub.
