Balancing Tires - Proper Method
 

Hello,

I have a new set of racing tires to be balanced and I want to make sure I get a quality job done. Is there a correct way to balance the tires? Should the wheel weights be placed on the inside or the outside of the rim or doesn't it matter. I race a 2-liter 1966 911 with the SVRA and I want to give the guys in the local garage proper instructions for balancing.

I feel the best way to balance is to match balance which finds the heavy side of the wheel and tire and then "matches" it so the least amount of weight is used. The best positioning of the weights is 2-plane meaning inside and outside edges.

go get a on road balancing done. it puts a roller against the tire and balances like it was on the road.

find a shop with a Hunter Roadmaster machine...

On some 911s one of the bolts on the hub is witness marked in red. Fit the wheel so the valve is in line with this bolt. This will make the balance closer to true on the road.
