Really Weird But Simple Problem With Clutch Cable! (Pedal Cluster Removal)

Ok I worked on getting my pedal cluster out today so i can rebuild it. Everything went smooth as can be and I have all the stuff unbolted EXCEPT, the stinking clutch cable. I can not for the life of me figure out how to get this thing off.

Some of you have probably did this before so maybe you can help me out

I can't get the PIN that holds the two forks on to the pedal assembly off. It has the cable which on the end of it has the two forked connector with a pin going through the center of it. I can not get that pin out so that it disconnects the cable from the cluster.

I know that that on the passenger side of the conenctor there is like some kind of little clip on it and I already accidently broke half of it off. How do i get this pin out?

I can't really describe it but I'm sure that some of you people who have done this before know what I am talking about. So please help me out here guys

Thanks!

If you can, grab what ever is left of the clip on the right hand side of the cable with small 6" Vise-Grips or something similar, and try to pivot that part upwards, using the pin as a hinge. Apply penetrating oil, if it is rusted. If you can, wiggle the right-hand piece through a 90 degree arc several times. Try to work the pin slowly out to the right.

If the pin is rusted and frozen, and won't move, cut the old cable, and move the pedal cluster to a bench vice for removal of clevis remnants.

Ok so is the pin connected to that little clip thing and the clip comes off with the pin connected to it? If so then I should be able to get it out. But I will need a new clip with a pin on it when i put it back in cause this one is most certainly damaged. Could you get me a part number for that from your book PLEEEASSEE ? I promise one day to buy my own book so i won't have to bug you anymore

The clip is 999.166.001.02, and just in case you have to destroy the clevis to get it off, it is 900.166.002.02.

I suggest the application of moly grease, or anti-sieze compound to the replacement parts!

Oh I think I just found a really nice picture that explains the pin
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/images/shift_linkage/914_clutch_cable_parts.JPG

Now I understand. The pin is connected to that clip. Cool!

I also found the parts for sale right here on pelicanparts page at a good price. Man I tell you what i don't know where I would be without the net and great folks like Warren to help me out!

Thanks again!

I'm replacing my clutch cable when the parts come in. I ordered this same pin, knowing I'd have to replace it. There's a pretty good article on replacing one's clutch cable in the 911 technican articles here on Pelican.
