Cool Has anyone ever tried to.............

replace the front valence with a '74 RSR or similar and mount the front a/c condenser where the front oil cooler normally would live? This would put the condenser in a good stream of air and would leave room for a fan behind for use in traffic. Even on a 100 F. day with the a/c running my engine temps only get to about 200-210 F. However, the a/c could use some help in the way of improved condenser cooling.

What do you think?

I think that's a lot of surgery just to add condenser surface to your a/c. Have you considered a front or rear fender condenser/fan configuration? Both can be installed without the drastic cosmetic change you're suggesting.

OTOH, if you really like the look of the RSR and want to change your front end, your suggestion sounds clever.

Ummmmm, Yummy third condenser in the place it should be:

Plenty of air makes it way here in the front. There is also room for fans. Jim Sims suggested a little dodad that will kick on the front fans only when needed. It's in one of my very old posts.

So far this setup works pretty good. Currently my expansion valve is shot but the vent temps are in the low to mid 40's on a 90 to 95 degree day. Creeps up to 50 on a 100 degree day. But I feel confident the vent temps will drop down significantly (low 30's or lower when the expansion valve is replaced.

Additionally, this valance is cake to put on. The condenser was cake to put on. I used rubber spacers to keep it off the body about an inch. As I said before there is space to mount fans to the front of the condenser to blow air threw it and into the intake of the stock condenser fan. Dual benefits!

Also, The stock hoses work perfectly for this valance (although I just replaced all of them with rennaires hoses). The only thing you need is one extra 1.5 to 2 foot hose.

Cool Front condenser............

Tom,

Thanks for the reply. Which front valence is that on your car? And, were you able to reuse the original fog lights or are those from a Carrera?

While you added a 3rd condenser, I was thinking along the lines of replacing/doing away with the stock front condenser altogether. I think I like your plan better!

I did this for awhile using the opening in my front Ruf bumper. The stock hoses allow this relocation.

Of course in the end I ended up pulling the A/C but yes your idea is possible.

This is where you can get one:

I would just about guarantee Wayne can get it as well.

I'm not sure if the fogs are stock. This thing was purchased with the lights so that's what's on it. I bet PP can answer that question. If you want to add more condenser this is the most logical and best location. If you don't mind the non-stock look. I actually prefer this look over the stock valance.
