Desparately seeking ignition

Today I replaced the BOV gaskets that had deteriorated on my 1979 930 following the instructions in this post: Changing 930 dump-gaskets, pictures galore While I had everything apart I noticed that the larger hose on the back of AAV was split. I replaced both hoses and reassembled everything. I started the car and it fired right up but was idling very low, sometimes shutting off. I pulled the hose from the distributer advance and the idle picked up to about where it was before. I loosened the distributer just enough to move it so I could adjust the timing. I spun the dizzy a little and the engine didn't like it so I moved it back. Now I can't get it to fire at all. My pumps are running but I'm not getting fire. I made sure all of the wires were seated properly. The cap and rotor are about 2 months old so they aren't the problem. Any ideas what I might have done?

Update: I'm getting fire. I hooked up my timing light and zip tied the trigger down. I watched it flash while I cranked the engine but it still won't fire. I don't have anyone to help so I can't check the marks while cranking. What could cause this to happen by turning the dizzy?

2nd update: I pinched off the vacuum line to the AAV and pulled the vacuum line to the dizzy advance and got it to start. It idled about normal but black smoke blew from the tail, I re-connected the dizzy advance hose and the smoke cleared up but idle dropped again. Anyone???

Ok, apparently its not an AAV, from what I've read its a "vacuum limiter" PN 930 110 173 00 according to PET. It also appears to be called a "deceleration valve" or "Auxiliary Air Device".
