Wood Steering Wheel, seeking info
I have a factory wood wheel that is unrestored. Steel spokes, butterfly horn. Opinions wanted about keeping it as it is or restoring it? It is pretty nice now with a small spot in the original finish.
Roughly what is it worth now and if I send it out? Pic below. ![]()

Check Ebay for values. I'm thankful mine came with the car some 13 years ago.
I'd leave it as is, if you plan to keep it. For mine, I just make sure the wood remains sealed. The black paint has worn off on edges of the spokes, but for all the attention and restoration you can do on other parts of the car, I enjoy having some "patina" right in front of me!

like the antiques roadshow, if you refinish it, the value usually is less. it looks fine the way it is.

No question that you should keep it: people who buy SWB 912s don't do it because of the wide tires and huge horsepower, they do it for originality and because the car is a throwback time machine. That being said, if it's not on the Certificate of Authenticity, you can expect it to fetch a few hundred dollars unrestored, in the low four figures if perfectly restored. And there are about two people in the USA who can do "perfectly" restored and the price will be very, very high.
I say leave it alone and enjoy it. Somebody put a wheel cover on over the years, hence the tiger stripe effect.

Thanks for all the input. I was wondering what those stripes were
![]() At least the car didn't go far. It's nice when they go to family.
